What is ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch?

ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch is a supplement for D&D 5e and Legend in the Mist packed with grim content inspired by balkan and slavic fables of yore. It’s got thematic subclasses, spells, species et cetera, along with the mystical realm of Zamanora, a land brimming with haunting spirits, strange traditions, and creatures pulled from forgotten tales.

Is Zamanora a campaign setting?

Zamanora is what we like to call a lite setting. You can easily drop it into an existing fantasy world like Faerun, the Dales or even your homebrew world, as a mysterious and folklore-rich region. At the same time, it has enough depth, with unique biomes, traditions, and beliefs, to serve as the backdrop for an entire campaign.

The magic of Zamanora lies in its adaptability: it offers a rich and immersive experience, without rigid cosmology or predetermined kingdoms, giving you the freedom to shape it however you wish. As far as the character options included, they are ready to go regardless of setting, to add that grim folkloric theme to your character.

Are Slavic/Balkan people working on this project?

A lot of the people involved in this project have Balkan and/or Slavic origins. For example, two of our most prominently featured artists, Tony Sart and Sergei Tsvelykh, are both from Slavic regions. In regards to the writers’ team, we are Balkans since we are all based in Greece and one of our members also has roots from Russia and Georgia. These are not stories we read from Wikipedia, rather we grew up with these tales, hearing them from our grandparents.

We are also collaborating with plenty of people that have vast experience on the subject matter and are from Serbia and Ukraine to ensure that we remain faithful to the cultures we are inspired from.

What system is ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch written for?

Both books in ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch are dual system books. Each book’s contents are penned in both D&D 2024 (which is backwards compatible with D&D 5e) and the Legend in the Mist RPG published by Son of Oak.

Since its inception, Zamanora was built around themes that resonate well with both systems, making each adaptation feel organic rather than just a mechanical conversion. Even if you only play one system, having both versions in the same book allows you to see the whole from different perspectives, adding depth and nuance to the setting.

This isn’t just a copy-paste translation—each system highlights different aspects of Zamanora, enriching the experience for those who use either one.

What does each book contain?

The Core Book contains anything you may need to start experiencing Zamanora in your own homebrew world! You will get all of the character options, spells, new mechanics, new species and a bunch more stuff (depending on the Stretch Goals that we manage to unlock as well!)

Monsters & Fables is the ultimate guide to bringing Zamanora to life. Learn more about the Gods that permeate the land, over 65 monsters that lurk just beyond the hearthlight and 5 detailed adventure locales that you can spend months of gaming exploring!

While getting the Core Book is a complete package in and of itself, the true experience unravels when both books are combined!

What will the GM screen feature?

The GM screen will hold two types of information.

Some of it is dedicated to Zamanora-specific mechanics, lore snippets, and key tables, ensuring you have essential information at hand while running your game.

The rest of the screen will be semi modular, allowing you to choose between common reference materials for D&D 2024 or Legend in the Mist, depending on what you wish to run.

Does the book contain AI generated images?

No. We never even considered it. We will always support real artists, and our books will always feature hand-crafted artwork that captures the soul of the world we’re building.

Does this project have anything to do with The Witcher?

The world of the Witcher is heavily based on Slavic folklore. Therefore, various concepts and creatures such as the Leshy, the Noonwraith and the Kikimora are among the many examples also present in Zamanora.

Other than that, we understand the main principles that define the aesthetic of the Witcher are also present in our setting.

A) The world of Zamanora is scarcely populated with folk that rely on belief, olden superstition and oral tradition to survive its many woes, rather than academic knowledge.

B) Those marked by their journeys beyond the Veil and into the world of spirits possess a rare understanding of the Hidden World. This allows them to become heralds of salvation or oppresion to their peers.

C) Monsters are more than mere encounters. Each, is a riddle to be solved, has its own aims and drives as well as reasons to be doing whatever it is that it does.

D) Characters are often presented with a grim reality. One must often forget the notion of ideal outcomes and accept the path of lesser evil.

The grim, gritty environment and occult monster hunting aspects built upon these foundations, make us feel that every fan of The Witcher will fall in love with the cautionary tales ZAMANORA: Ballad of the Witch will bring to their tables.

I backed within the first 48 hours, how do I make sure I get my Early Birds?

It’s simple! - You back the project - Kickstarter keeps a record of when exactly you made your pledge - In BackerKit we select everyone who backed before the 48 hour mark - If you bought a physical item, you also get the Adventure Journal in your order. If you did not get a physical item and your order is digital-only, then you only get the Baba Yaga STL

On your end, just make sure to make your pledge within the first 48 hours, and we will take it from there

NOTE: While you can edit your pledge without missing your Early Bird reward freely throughout the whole of the campaign, if you cancel your pledge and later on decide to back again AFTER the first 48 hours, you may no longer be eligible for either of the Early Bird rewards!

I have never backed a Kickstarter before, how does it work?

First, you back the project here on Kickstarter by selecting a reward tier. That means that you support us in making the project, and that you will get rewards based on your pledge level.

After the Kickstarter campaign is over, Kickstarter will process your pledge (but you won’t be charged for shipping yet). A few weeks later, you’ll receive an email invitation to the BackerKit pledge manager. This will be sent to your mail address you use on Kickstarter, so make sure this is an address you check regularly!

Using Backerkit we will gather the necessary information we will need to ship the products to you - that will usually just be your shipping address. You will also get the chance to change your pledge to a higher one if you would like to, or to add add-ons. Afterwards you proceed to pay for shipping and VAT (if applicable), the amount depending on which country you want the physical rewards to be shipped to.

When you are done with your Backer Survey and paid for shipping or any potential upgrades to your pledge, you are all done on your side! The rest is on us. We’ll make sure to finish production and manufacturing as soon as possible, and send your rewards to you.

We will stay in touch with updates and calls to action throughout the entire process, so you always know what’s happening. If there’s ever anything you need to do, we’ll let you know—but don’t worry, it’s easier than it looks at first glance!

How do I get add-ons like the Adventure Deck for example?

When selecting your reward tier, you’ll have the option to add extra items before finalizing your pledge. If you don’t choose any at first, you can always hit ‘manage your pledge’, ‘change your pledge’, and add them before the campaign is over. You’ll have another chance to increase your pledge and purchase add-ons, when we send out our BackerKit surveys, so don’t worry about missing out.

What is a pledge manager?

In essence a pledge manager is a platform allowing us to better handle the pledges made on Kickstarter. We are partnering with BackerKit for our pledge manager, which should go live about a month after the Kickstarter concludes.

On that platform we will be able to securely collect shipping information, charge shipping and VAT expenses as well as ensure a seamless fulfillment.

Last updated: February 28, 2025 09:57

How do I pay for shipping?

Shipping costs will be charged separately after the Kickstarter ends through BackerKit, our pledge manager. Please keep in mind that the estimated costs presented on the campaign page are subject to change. Though we strive for accurate predictions, the ongoing global shipping situation is quite volatile. Once we have the finalized package weights, sizes, and any unlocked stretch goals, shipping will be charged on BackerKit

Last updated: February 28, 2025 09:57

When will I be charged?

After the Kickstarter campaign ends on April 3rd, Kickstarter will automatically charge your chosen payment method for your pledged amount. If you’ve picked a physical reward, remember that you’ll still need to cover shipping (check our estimated prices) and any applicable sales tax. The exact amount depends on your order, location, and local tax rates. BackerKit will calculate this for you when it’s time to fulfill orders.

What if my order is damaged or missing?

If you find that there is anything at fault with your order, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will ensure that the situation is resolved, and you get to experience Zamanora at the highest possible quality.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
